STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN: Villa Pauli enters a new chapter with the unveiling of Villa Pauli new addition – a landmark expansion in Djursholm outside Stockholm that brings together gastronomy, wellbeing, design, and contemporary members’ culture. Opening May 15th, 2026, the historic waterfront estate evolves into a fully realised lifestyle destination, introducing the restaurant concept St. Nobl alongside new social spaces, a wellness club, ocean view tennis court, rooftop terraces, and pool area designed around seamless indoor-outdoor living.

Long regarded as one of Sweden’s most storied private estates, Villa Pauli has, since its origins in 1907, occupied a singular place within Swedish cultural life. Originally designed by renowned architect Ragnar Östberg and shaped by the artistic legacy of Georg Pauli, the villa has long stood as a meeting point between architecture, craftsmanship, and social culture. With its newest addition, Villa Pauli evolves into something far more expansive: a contemporary members’ universe where heritage and international lifestyle converge. Spanning approximately 1,600 square metres of newly developed space contributing to a total of around 4,000 square metres dedicated to members.

The expansion introduces a carefully choreographed sequence of experiences including a new oceanfront restaurant, wellness club, poolside environment, rooftop terraces, tennis court, and intimate hospitality spaces.

During early Autumn 2026, the next phase of the evolution will continue with the opening of three private hotel suites, adding a more residential and intimate dimension to the estate.

“With this new chapter, our ambition has been to create something that feels larger than a traditional members’ club or restaurant. Villa Pauli is envisioned as a living destination where gastronomy, culture, wellbeing, and social experiences come together in an environment that feels both internationally inspired and deeply connected to the history and character of the estate.”, says Wendela Wennström, Marketing Manager at Villa Pauli – A Family Club.

Architecture as a Contemporary Layer in Time
The architectural vision behind Villa Pauli’s new addition has been led by architect Jonas Glock, whose approach centred on creating what he describes as “a contemporary layer in time” within one of Djursholm’s most historically significant estates. Rather than replicating the past, the ambition was to allow the new additions to exist in dialogue with the original villa – preserving its cultural identity while introducing a distinctly contemporary architectural language.

“Historic buildings should never become frozen in time,” says architect Jonas Glock. “The ambition was to add something unmistakably contemporary while allowing the original villa to remain the emotional and architectural heart of the estate. The new spaces are designed as a new annual ring, a reflection of our own time carefully added onto the existing story.”

The transformation presented significant architectural challenges. Large parts of the estate are protected by strict preservation regulations, including original interiors and mural paintings by artist Georg Pauli. Yet the vision required entirely new functions expected from a contemporary international members’ destination – from spa and fitness facilities to expanded hospitality and dining experiences.

Among the most ambitious interventions is the Villa Pauli Wellness Club and gym, discreetly embedded beneath the rebuilt ocean-view tennis court. By integrating much of the new programme directly into the landscape, the expansion preserves the visual integrity of the surrounding park while allowing the estate to evolve almost invisibly from a distance. Large glass façades, restored stone details, handcrafted brickwork, and carefully reinterpreted historical materials create a subtle tension between permanence and modernity – dissolving the boundaries between architecture, landscape, and social life.

“It was essential that the additions never overwhelmed the original estate,” Glock continues. “Instead, they should feel like carefully integrated architectural layers, respectful of history, but unafraid of expressing the spirit of the present.”

Interiors Inspired by a Fictional Muse
The interiors, created by SPIK Studios under the creative direction of Nina Glendinning, move away from restrained Scandinavian minimalism in favour of something far more cinematic, layered, and emotionally expressive. Throughout the project, the studio imagined a fictional muse – a worldly, elegant, and slightly mysterious character whose personality became the emotional framework for the interiors.

“The fictional muse became our answer to every design question,” says Nina Glendinning, Interior Architect  Creative Director at SPIK Studios. “She lives between tradition and adventure – someone raised among antiques and craftsmanship, yet endlessly curious about the world. Every room feels like stepping into a different part of her wardrobe, her travels, or her memories.”

The result is an eclectic composition of jewel-toned velvets, dark-stained oak, limestone flooring, brass detailing, hand-painted murals, mirrored surfaces, vintage references, and contemporary artworks. Throughout the spaces, tactile materials and handcrafted details create an atmosphere designed to reveal itself gradually over time. Rather than aiming for predictable luxury, the ambition was to create interiors that feel intimate, sensual, and slightly unexpected – where guests continuously discover hidden details with every visit.

“We wanted the spaces to feel immersive and emotionally charged,” Nina Glendinning explains. “There are hidden references throughout – in the textiles, the artwork, even in the shapes of the furniture. It should feel personal and atmospheric, never anonymous.”

Nature and the surrounding waterfront landscape also play a central role throughout the interiors. Hand-painted wallpapers inspired by the estate grounds, sculptural greenery, and carefully positioned seating all work to amplify light, perspective, and the connection to the sea beyond.

Across the project, traditional materials such as limestone, oak, brass, and natural stone have been reintroduced and reinterpreted with a contemporary sensibility, balancing craftsmanship and longevity with a bold international character.

St. Nobl – A New Gastronomic Experience
At the centre of Villa Pauli new addition is St. Nobl, a new oceanfront restaurant concept launching as part of the May 2026 opening. Designed as a natural extension of Villa Pauli, St. Nobl unfolds across multiple interconnected settings – from an indoor atrium and bar to expansive terraces and poolside dining areas – together accommodating approximately 100 guests. The main dining room offers 76 seats alongside a 14-seat bar, complemented by additional seating integrated throughout the outdoor spaces.

The culinary direction brings a contemporary international perspective where Mediterranean influences meet Scandinavian clarity and seasonality. Yet as much as it is about gastronomy, St. Nobl has been conceived around atmosphere – where light, music, movement, and social energy shape the experience as much as the menu itself. It is designed for rhythm: for long lunches extending into afternoon, for sunset cocktails by the water, and for evenings that gradually unfold into night.

The interiors of St Nobl embrace a more daring and decadent expression than the rest of the estate. Velvet, marble, Murano glass chandeliers, mirrored surfaces, and richly textured fabrics create an environment that transforms dramatically throughout the day – from sunlit Mediterranean ease at lunch to something more intimate and cinematic by evening.

Different seating typologies – from social dining settings to more secluded corners – were intentionally designed to encourage movement, interaction, and changing perspectives throughout the restaurant. Large glass façades further dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors, allowing the restaurant to flow naturally into the surrounding pool terraces and waterfront landscape during the summer season.

“Nothing in St. Nobl is minimalist,” says Nina Glendinning. “It’s intentionally bold, glamorous, and layered with personality. We wanted every seat, every detail, and every transition between spaces to feel like its own small experience.”

Wellbeing, Social Life, and Contemporary Nordic Lifestyle
Beyond gastronomy, Villa Pauli’s new addition introduces a new dimension of lifestyle and wellbeing. The Villa Pauli Wellness Club offers a holistic spa experience with saunas, steam rooms, cold immersion, treatment spaces, and a state-of-the-art gym equipped with Technogym facilities – creating an environment equally focused on recovery, performance, and social connection.

Outdoors, the experience continues with a serene pool setting, rooftop sun terraces, and an ocean-view tennis court built to international standards, accompanied by a dedicated players’ lounge overlooking the water. Together, these elements create a seamless balance between activity, relaxation, hospitality, and cultural life – reflecting a broader shift in how modern members’ destinations are experienced today.

Rooted in Swedish heritage yet shaped by an international sensibility, Villa Pauli positions itself as a Nordic members’ club: immersive, expressive, and designed around atmosphere as much as place. With Villa Pauli’s new addition, the historic estate evolves into more than a private members’ club or hospitality destination. It becomes a living composition of architecture, gastronomy, design, wellbeing, and culture – where past and present continuously interact, and where Stockholm meets the world.
