In the spring of 2023, Vestre presents the equally functional and aesthetically pleasing waste container Hill, which is Vestre’s latest addition for a cleaner urban environment. It is also Vestre’s first collaboration with the design duo Morten & Jonas.

Morten Skjærpe Knarrum and Jonas Norheim are the designers behind one of Norway’s most acclaimed contemporary design studios, with a wealth of successful products and collaborations in their portfolio.

”We have been discussing a collaboration with Vestre for a long time and it feels fantastic that it finally happened. We are very satisfied with both the collaboration and the product”, says Morten Skjærpe Knarrum.

At first thought, a waste container may sound like a very simple product with a single purpose. At the same time, they also have a prominent and visible role in the environments they are placed in and similar to, for example, outdoor benches, they are also present in those environments for a long time. Therefore, the designers wanted to design a waste container that was also aesthetically pleasing.

”We obviously wanted to create a functional waste container, but which at the same time had character and personality that could merge with the function”, says Morten Skjærpe Knarrum

Hill is made of hot-dip galvanized and powder-coated Swedish steel. As always, Vestre offers a lifetime guarantee against rust. Thanks to the option of freely choosing a color from Vestre’s range of around 200 different RAL colours, Hill can be easily adapted to any environment.

”An additional design element for landscape architects to play with is that the barrel itself and the top are completely separated from each other, and can therefore be painted in different colors and create interesting contrasts and effects”, says Morten Skjærpe Knarrum.

For all types of waste management products, there are many functional requirements to take into account. It must be easy to throw rubbish into them and easy for cleaning workers to empty them. Like other waste bins and containers from Vestre, Hill can be equipped with a smart sensor system that tells you when it’s time to empty it – a solution that is very smart from an environmental perspective but also saves time and resources.

This spring, Hill is launched with one or two containers for source separation, and later in 2023, a version with three containers will be added.
