The wait is finally over. The third edition of Stockholm Creative Edition is here. More than 120 designers, artisans, creators, artists, and makers – from debutants to well-established players – will participate in various ways during the week and turn Stockholm into a sprawling design festival open for all.

This year’s theme is called Hey Future and highlights how new visions and ambitions push the design world forward. This new progressive moment is changing the Nordic design landscape and is characterized by niche design, small – often locally produced – production runs, and direct online sales to the consumer.

At Stockholm Creative Edition, debutants and established brands and designers participate side by side and in creative and inspiring collaborations.

The design festival takes place during May 24–27. On Stockholm Creative Edition’s website, you’ll find a detailed program and a map that guides visitors to where and when the various activities take place. Below you can see a selection of some of the events taking place during the week.

NEW CONTEMPORARY X Malmstens LIU
Stockholm Creative Edition wants to be the natural platform for young designers and again this year invites newly graduated designers to participate in NEW CONTEMPORARY – an exhibition made in collaboration with Malmstens LIU, where graduating students from the Bachelor’s programs in Furniture Design, Cabinetmaking, and Upholstery display degree projects and advanced furniture characterized by ambitious, progressive design and solid craftsmanship. The exhibition will be shown in the historic Bilpalatset in Vasastaden, which is also the hub for this year’s edition of Stockholm Creative Edition.

Norrmalms Kartongfabrik X Office of Possibilities
Since 1916, Norrmalms Kartongfabrik has made boxes that refute the outdated notion of mindless disposal. Their work combines the pragmatism of utility with an Old World reverence for fine craftsmanship. There is no assembly line, only skilled artisan hands. During Stockholm Creative Edition, everybody is welcome to visit the factory at Dalagatan.

Norrmalms Kartongfabrik is also part of a collaboration with Office of Possibilities. Together they have created Build-to-Last 2, an exploration of the possibility to create a lighting solution with a well-proven manufacturing technique. Made to be assembled by yourself during the Stockholm Creative Edition event, designed to be brought home and used lovingly.

Build-to-Last 2 emphasizes how things are put together and involve the visitor in the process; the feelings of pure joy using hands to create something. Exploring manufacturing techniques, material, and form. Designing essential interior objects and pushing boundaries along with challenging the status quo.

No Early Birds
No Early Birds, founded by architect and designer Per Söderberg, offers a contemporary yet timeless furniture collection based on the architectural cross-leg and an ingenious mounting system. The furniture is made in Sweden with a holistic design approach based on the ambition to combine the simplicity and functionalism of Scandinavian design with the sophistication of Italian elegance.

During Stockholm Creative Edition, selected pieces from the No Early Birds collection as well as bespoke furniture designed by Per for various interior projects will be exhibited together with 20th-century art, ceramics, glass, and lamps from Jacksons Design, transforming the No Early Birds studio into the home of an eclectic design collector.

Anna von Schewen X Gärsnäs
During Stockholm Creative Edition, the exhibition Parallel Lines will be shown at House of Gärsnäs. The exhibition shows sketches and new objects which form Anna von Schewen’s new collection of objects and sculptures in paper, ceramics, and textiles that portray a flow of ideas and experiments with materials. Included in the show are webbing handbags, stoneware pots, cushions, and wall sculptures. The exhibition highlights the adventures and processes of creativity.

Diaform
The design studio Diaform was founded by Philip Duniec, Chris Lekström, and Philip Lekström on a snowy evening in 2021. The multidisciplinary design trio has mixed experiences in product design, product development, and cabinetry, as well as visual and graphic design. Together, they create pieces in their workshop that aim to explore the balance between production-oriented and sculptural compositions. In every object, solidity and lightness are juxtaposed with a close eye on details and materials.

At Stockholm Creative Edition, Diaform presents their first range of furniture pieces in the exhibition Conic Silhouettes, as well as a dive into the world of their latest mystery: Meltemi – an interpretation of the annual winds across the Aegean sea, an ancient force captured in a pattern of a depthless cabinet.

The Garage Stockholm / Fredrik Nielsen
During Stockholm Creative Edition The Garage Stockholm, an old boiler room-turned-glassblowing workshop, located in Årsta, will open its doors for the public to come and watch.

Professional glass blower Fredrik Nielsen founded the studio with Patrick Hällbom in 2015 as a hub for radical creativity. Nielsen, whose main material is glass, approaches his material and the traditions around it in his very own way. He uses a raw expression influenced by graffiti, music, and pop culture. His approach pushes the traditional perception of glass in new directions.

The collection is a growing selection of plates and bowls specially designed to highlight the raw ingredient being served or with a focus on the specific dish. The new additions are inspired by pasta and the joint meal with family, where the food is central. All parts are made of stoneware and handmade by Samir Dzabirov in Gustavsberg.

Alwares produces objects for the home, based on Nordic minimalism combined with England’s use of colors and patterns. Everything from small essential items to tailored furnishings, all with the set table in mind. Inspired by her childhood and grandfather, founder Jill Ågren, works closely with her chosen craftsmen.
