The new winter collections from NJRD, designed by the design studio Bernadotte & Kylberg, showcase premium materials and craftsmanship while drawing inspiration from architecture and nature. ASPEKT, a line of handwoven wool rugs, is a natural evolution of NJRD’s DNA, while VIOR – the brand’s debut furniture collection – celebrates ’Scandinavian moments’ around the dining table. ”We believe that it’s the small, meaningful moments that inspire us the most – these are the moments that bring us together,” says Oscar Kylberg, one half of the design studio Bernadotte & Kylberg, which started NJRD in collaboration with Nordic Nest in 2020.
In VIOR, NJRD’s design DNA comes to life in furniture for the first time. Named after the Old Norse word for ’wood,’ VIOR is crafted to spark conversation and create cherished moments with loved ones. With the warmth of oak and its inviting, organic shapes, VIOR brings a sense of connection to every piece. Sit down, add an extra chair, and embrace designs that celebrate life together.
The collection features a dining table, chairs, and a kitchen sofa – historically a staple in Scandinavian homes, but now a rare sight. It was however, a natural decision for the brand to reintroduce the kitchen sofa into the collection.
”VIOR is a tribute to ’Scandinavian moments,’ and the collection is designed to create a natural gathering place for family and friends, fostering meaningful conversations and treasured times. The kitchen sofa, a classic Scandinavian piece that has been overlooked in recent years, feels like a perfect fit around the dining table for us,” says Carl Philip Bernadotte.
”The kitchen sofa has a natural place in the Scandinavian home. When designing the kitchen sofa for the VIOR collection, we focused on soft shapes, exceptional seating comfort, and natural materials,” explains Kylberg, adding, ”as Scandinavians, we know what we want, and that is our starting point. We’ve stayed true to our Scandinavian heritage while being meticulous in our choice of materials. Naturally, the craftsmanship is also of the highest quality.”
While VIOR ushers in a new chapter of NJRD’s journey, the ASPEKT collection brings a familiar yet fresh energy with its exclusive handwoven wool rugs. Drawing inspiration from the brand’s previous bold geometric rug collections, Shapes and Edges, ASPEKT builds on NJRD’s signature style, featuring striking colors and carefully chosen materials. The collection shifts from a linear perspective to an urban one, exploring new surfaces and larger expanses.
ASPEKT and VIOR are available exclusively from December 6th at Nordic Nest and Svenssons, online and in stores, Nordic Nest.
