Since starting as a platform for curating vintage furniture through a small store in 2011, Dusty Deco has transformed into a fearless, boundary-pushing design brand of its own, offering a growing collection of furniture, rugs and accessories. This year’s Stockholm Design Week promises to be an action-packed one for Dusty Deco, with the brand set to launch several new products, including a chair, two rugs, a coffee table, and a ceiling lamp. Dusty Deco is also relaunching two iconic furniture pieces: Elias Svedberg’s Paris sofa, and Henning Kjaernulf’s Razor blade chair.
When Edin and Lina Kjellvertz launched Dusty Deco as a platform for curating vintage furniture, interior accessories and art, they travelled the world and browsed flea markets for the most unique pieces they could find. Their philosophy was to acquire only items they truly loved, fostering a collection with a timeless aesthetic. Safe to say, their home and storage spaces soon overflowed with rare design objects.
What started as a small-scale passion project soon grew into a loyal fan base and dedicated retail space in their hometown of Stockholm. Ten years later, Edin and Lina began a new chapter in the brand’s history by closing the doors to their vintage business and launching Dusty Deco as an independent design company, with a growing collection of furniture, rugs and accessories.
Today Dusty Deco is a contemporary design brand, creating pieces with just as much storytelling, originality, and passion for craftsmanship as the vintage finds that originally inspired the couple to start their company.
During Stockholm Design Week, Dusty Deco will present several new pieces designed by the brand’s founders, as well as high-profile collaborations and relaunches of true design classics.
First up is two new rugs, named Manuela and Murillo, designed by Lina & Edin Kjellvertz. Lina provides insight into the inspiration behind the two rugs.
“Strolling through Palma, Mallorca, you see many nice details, The inspiration for Murillo comes from one of these walks. I passed a tiled wall on Calle Murillo, its burgundy reds and olive greens enriched by a timeworn patina that enhances its geometrical pattern. It was a spot-on Dusty colour and pattern.”
Whenever Edin is away, I treat myself to a new interior detail from a flea market. It’s usually made out of rattan or bamboo, which I find to be the perfect accents for making a home feel warm and inviting. So, this is my tribute to myself, or my Spanish alter ego Manuela, who fills the home with wicker baskets and rattan chairs.
Edin and Lina are also behind the design of the new Cornelia ceiling lamp and the Cufflink sofa table.
The former is a big, round ceiling lamp made from brass and natural Capiz shells, which make each lamp unique and add to its character and personality. The lamp works well in many different settings, from modern to classical. It serves as a stunning decorative piece, ideal for illuminating dining areas, living rooms, and hallways.
The Cufflink Sofa Table is a coffee table crafted in polished stainless steel, designed to catch the eye and command attention in any space. Its distinctive, bold design makes a powerful statement, adding a modern and sophisticated touch to living rooms and lounges.
Dusty Deco X Bross – Albert Chair
To create the new Albert Chair, Dusty Deco joined forces with Swedish design brand Bross. Solid and robust, the Albert Chair makes a striking statement in the room despite its simplicity. Its understated yet expressive shape, with graphic lines and curves, offer both character and comfort. The gentle bends in the seat and backrest contribute to its balance, giving it a clean, distinctive quality.
The different variations of the chair make it versatile for both private homes and public spaces.
Relaunching design classics
Last but not least, Dusty Deco is relaunching two pieces of seating furniture, each designed by a Scandinavian design icon.
Paris Sofa is an elegant, curved sofa designed by Elias Svedberg (1913-1987). With the approval of Svedberg’s descendants, Dusty Deco relaunched this exceptional piece of furniture in 2023. The Paris Sofa has a frame made of solid beech, with springs and different layers of foam in the seating area assuring great comfort. For this year’s Stockholm Design Week, Dusty Deco has covered it in an abstract, spray-dyed chenille from Black Edition.
Dusty Deco is also relaunching the Razor Blade chair by Danish designer Henning Kjaernulf (1911-1975). This iconic chair is relaunched in collaboration with the Kjaernulf family. The new version is made of oak and upholstered in mohair by Lauritzon.
