When Stockholm Creative Edition returns for the third year, the theme is Hey Future! A theme that shows how new visions and ambitions push the world of design forward. With Stockholm City as the backdrop, progressive and local design initiatives within furniture, lighting, arts and crafts, and much more, will be displayed in showrooms, pop-up premises, and other places.
”The idea with Stockholm Creative Edition has always been that it should be an open design festival that shows the power of the creative scene in Stockholm. This year we have an even greater focus on the unique and on the independent creators who dare to think differently. We also see how many well-established brands choose to innovate in order to remain relevant. It is an important future issue for the design industry to dare to be more progressive, more than ever right now, when the industry is being shaken to its foundations in the wake of the pandemic, war, and inflation”, say Ulrika and Philippe Attar, initiators and founders of Stockholm Creative Edition.
Stockholm Creative Edition runs 24–27 May around Stockholm and offers an experience-oriented design festival open for all, where everyone should feel welcome – not least the design-interested public.
”In the digital age, it has become increasingly difficult to evoke interest in visiting showrooms and physical stores, even though the interest in design is greater than ever. You need to add an extra dimension and offer a clear reason to visit and be inspired”, say Ulrika and Philippe.
Another tendency is that today, more collaborations are being started in different constellations than ever before. Visitors will be able to take part in these during the week, whether it concerns furniture design, handcraft, art, or creations in the borderland between design and fashion.
A telling example of how some of Sweden’s most renowned and established design companies now have the desire to explore and find new ways of expression can be seen in Gärsnäs, which for 130 years has been one of the country’s most loved furniture producers. At Stockholm Creative Edition, House of Gärsnäs will show award-winning designer Anna von Schewen’s form exhibition Parallel Lines, a collection of objects and sculptures in paper, ceramics, and textiles that depict flows of ideas and material experimentation.
During the week, Stockholm Creative Edition will also highlight the many local producers that are scattered across Stockholm and visitors will be able to take part in workshops and try crafts themselves. For example, Fredrik Nielsen, a celebrated glass artist, will open the doors to his glass cabin The Garage in Årstaberg, while Norrmalms Kartongfabrik (Cardboard Factory) alongside the design studio Office of Possibilities will invite visitors to a workshop where they can take part in the creative process and fold their own lamp.
This year, we will see several participants from the other side of the Baltic Sea as well, including the Helsinki-based concept gallery Lokal, which will showcase new objects from contemporary Finnish creators and visionaries who represent a new generation in Finnish craft and design.
Stockholm Creative Edition wants to be the natural platform for young designers and again this year invites newly graduated designers to participate in the NEW CONTEMPORARY exhibition. An exhibition made in collaboration with Malmstens LIU, where graduating students from the Bachelor’s programs in Furniture Design, Cabinetmaking, and Upholstery display degree projects and advanced furniture characterized by ambitious, progressive design and solid craftsmanship.
The complete program with all participants, times, events, and addresses will be presented soon. Participants includes: Arabia, Arranging Things, Alwares, Anna Harström, Anna von Schewen, Brutwork, Cathy Nordström Design, Contem, Daniel Braconier, Designgalleriet, Diaform, Emma Hjortenklev, Fredrik Nielsen, Galleri Glas, Gärsnäs, Hemslöjden i Östergötland, In Between, Interesting Times Gang, Iittala, Kakeldagen, Knut, Konst-ig, Konstkompaniet, Korbo, Lisa Lindh, Lokal Helsinki, Li-An-Lo, Malmstens LIU, Misschiefs, No Early Birds/Per Söderberg, Norrmalms Kartongfabrik, Office of Possibilities, Rörstrand, Salig Studios, Sara Ullvetter, Susan Szatmáry, The Modern, The Ode To, Toniton, and more.

About Stockholm Creative Edition
Stockholm Creative Edition is an independent design week where Stockholm forms a fund for a new type of design festival where we showcase the best in Nordic design, furniture, lighting, art, and crafts.
The theme for 2023 is Hey Future! The theme highlights how a progressive and forward-looking movement takes shape where the design world shows completely new visions and ambitions and the change in attitude leads to new ways to work with design. Established players embrace the change and find new ways to develop their brands and collections. Showrooms become changing stores where you can both tell a story and get inspiration – you build deeper relationships with customers and partners.
The designer’s role is expanded and takes up more space. You no longer sit and wait to get a seat at the table, but new platforms are created where the vision is often rooted in a philosophy about what role you have in the design ecosystem. Designers want to own the entire chain and control everything from origin, production, marketing, and distribution, rather than just design and material.
