Rörstrand’s 300th anniversary celebrations continue, and in the second quarter of the year, blue and white take centre stage – a timeless palette that bridges the spring and summer seasons. The year’s first archive relaunch marks the return of the beloved and iconic Blå Eld collection, while the Swedish Grace glassware range is expanded with an elegant blue hue. Together, these launches celebrate Rörstrand’s distinctive heritage and contemporary design language.

BLÅ ELD – THE RETURN OF A BELOVED CLASSIC
Blå Eld is one of Rörstrand’s most cherished and recognisable collections, originally designed by Hertha Bengtson and produced between 1951 and 1971. Bengtson joined Rörstrand Porcelain Factory in 1941 and remained active for over two decades, working alongside designers such as  Marianne Westman, Carl-Harry Stålhane and Gunnar Nylund. In addition to Blå Eld, she also designed the collections Koka, Ceylon and Rosmarin.

The collection is defined by its relief-patterned surface, asymmetrical forms and the striking contrast between deep cobalt blue and white. At the time of its original launch, the colour concept was highly unique: all items used for eating and drinking were white, while blue was reserved for plates, jugs, bowls and serving dishes. Today, Blå Eld is regarded as one of Rörstrand’s crown jewels and remains highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts alike.

“Blå Eld shows how Rörstrand’s design has consistently been ahead of its time. As we celebrate our 300th anniversary, we want to highlight this very ability, to unite a strong heritage with ongoing evolution. The relaunch of Blå Eld shows how iconic design can continue to feel relevant for generations to come,” says Malin Herdevall, Brand Manager at Rörstrand.

SWEDISH GRACE GLASSWARE IN BLUE
The Swedish Grace glassware collection was introduced in 2025 as an entirely new category within Rörstrand’s range. Following its debut in clear glass, the collection is now expanded with an elegant blue hue, perfect for spring and summer table settings. The chosen shade harmonises with several of Rörstrand’s classic blue patterns, including Blå Eld and Ostindia, while also enhancing the collection’s signature relief pattern and giving the glassware a more pronounced expression.

The Swedish Grace glassware in blue is mouth-blown, giving each piece its own unique character. The glass is blown into moulds – a technique that allows for high precision while preserving the craftsmanship inherent in traditional glassmaking. The carafe, the centrepiece of the collection, undergoes additional hand-finishing of the neck and rim, further enhancing its sculptural quality.

Made from robust, thick glass and dishwasher-safe, the pieces are designed to be both elegant and practical for everyday use. Their softly rounded shape and classic proportions make them a natural complement to Rörstrand’s porcelain collections, equally suited to daily dining and more celebratory occasions. The carafe also doubles beautifully as a vase.

The design is developed by Rörstrand’s in-house design team, drawing inspiration from the classic Swedish Grace aesthetic: a rounded base, an open tulip-shaped top and a distinctive relief pattern.
