Nordic hotel operator Bob W – Europe’s highest-ranked international hospitality brand – is launching a new technology-driven apartment hotel in Stockholm. The interior has been designed by award-winning Swedish design studio Note (design studio) and blends the building’s original 1960s feel with first-class local design and a seamless digital guest experience.

The property is Bob W’s first in Sweden and offers Bob W’s signature blend of cutting-edge technology, high-end local design, and home-like comfort. The new apartment hotel is housed in a former hotel building at Kammakargatan 5, in the heart of Norrmalm, and offers stylish studios with kitchens, designed to accommodate both short and extended stays.

”Kammakargatan is just a few steps from Stockholm’s lively city centre and close to some of the capital’s best restaurants. It’s a lively and vibrant area and therefore the perfect environment for a hotel designed for a progressive and modern clientele,” says Johannes Karlström, architect and co-founder of Note, explaining that the studio drew inspiration from the building itself, which was constructed in 1965, when designing the interiors.

Preserved design sensibility – updated zeitgeist
“This project is about using as much of the existing building components as possible, upgrading it while using minimal interventions keeping the refurbishment efficient both in terms of cost and sustainability. We set out to merge the design sensibilities of the 1960s with the spirit of contemporary Stockholm, telling the story of a city in transformation, becoming increasingly inclusive and optimistic. In this narrative, the brutalist exterior represents a restrictive and modest past, while the interior reflects the playful and vibrant ideas of a bright future,” says Jesper Mellgren, architect at Note.

With re-use as a guiding principle, the project celebrates the original structure while reimagining it with color and detail. Monochromatic corridors guide guests between apartments and various hotel amenities, where contrast, saturation, and detailing are amplified. Eye-catching design elements, paired with a curated selection of unique vintage pieces, elevate each space, giving them the distinctive and eccentric character so highly sought after.

“We are incredibly excited to come to Sweden and introduce Bob W in one of Europe’s most vibrant cities,” says Niko Karstikko, co-founder and CEO of Bob W, continuing:

”Generic hotels and uncertain short-term accommodations are not keeping pace with how modern travelers live, work, and explore. Today’s guests want authentic local experiences without compromising on comfort, consistency or quality. That’s exactly what we offer: first-class local design, exclusive amenities and a completely digital, hassle-free experience.”

He explains that the goal is for all Bob W properties to deliver an authentic local experience.

“At every Bob W location, it’s all about delivering an authentic local experience. In Stockholm, that means everything from the interiors by Note Design Studio to locally sourced art and amenities – every detail is a nod to the city’s creative culture. All of this is set in one of Stockholm’s best locations, offering unbeatable access and convenience for both city explorers and business travellers alike,” Karstikko concludes.

The collaboration continues
The collaboration between Note and Bob W does not end with the Stockholm project; the parties have already begun work on the next Bob W property, in a 7,500-square-metre former police station in Copenhagen’s iconic Meatpacking District.

The heritage building, located in the culinary and highly creative hotspot of Kødbyen, will be converted into a flagship facility with 169 rooms, scheduled to open in October 2027. As in Norrmalm, the building will retain its original industrial façade and structural character, which will be thoughtfully redesigned.

”In the interior, we will aim to capture the spirit and feel of the classic building and use locally produced artwork, furniture and exciting collaborations with artisans in the area, creating an authentic design with roots in the surrounding neighbourhood. We are very much looking forward to creating unique interiors that tell a story for yet another Bob W establishment,” says Sanna Wåhlin, head of Note’s Copenhagen office.
