Iittala unveils the new collection for Spring/Summer 2025, featuring an innovative tableware line, Solare, which reimagines the dining experience through light and form. Alongside the Solare tableware line, the collection introduces new glass art, small accessories, and textiles that extend the light-inspired aesthetic into the home.

A VISION OF LIGHT AND FORM: A CREATIVE DIRECTOR’S PERSPECTIVE
According to Janni Vepsäläinen, Iittala’s Creative Director, Solare “represents a bold step into Iittala’s future while honoring our design legacy of craft and industrial expertise.” Vepsäläinen continues: “The collection draws inspiration from nature’s most powerful light source — the sun — translating its intense energy into shapes and forms that challenge conventional design boundaries. As a creative concept, Solare evolves from the AW24 collection, Kaamos, embodying the natural duality of Nordic seasons – after the darkness
of Kaamos comes the light of Solare. This fundamental dualism in our design philosophy introduces a distinctly futuristic narrative.”

THE SOLARE COLLECTION: WHERE INNOVATION MEETS TRADITION
The core of the collection is an innovative tableware line, Solare, which brings Vepsäläinen’s vision to life. The Solare features mouth-blown glassware crafted at Iittala’s factory in Finland, where skilled artisans create forms that capture and transform light. The ceramics showcase an embossed surface that serves multiple purposes: providing a secure grip, adding visual depth through light interaction, and enabling practical stacking for storage. The versatile design aest
hetic allows for seamless integration with existing Iittala tableware collections, making it easy to mix and match pieces to create personalised combinations. Together, these pieces offer endless possibilities for unique table settings that adapt to their surroundings, whether serving up a morning coffee or an evening’s entertainment.

“We focused on creating forms that feel distinctly modern and forward-looking,” explains Harri Koskinen, Iittala’s Design Development Lead. “The mouth-blown pieces feature smooth, aerodynamic shapes reminiscent of advanced technology, yet they’re created using traditional glassblowing techniques at our factory in Finland. The way the glass curves and catches light gives each piece a futuristic precision while remaining functional for everyday use.”

A COMPREHENSIVE DESIGN VISION
The Solare collection extends to glass art, stainless steel accessories, textiles, and interior pieces. Each piece reflects the collection’s exploration of light, staying true to Iittala’s vision of concept-driven seasonal collections. Notable additions include the iconic Aalto vases in seasonal colours, alongside striking Iittala glass spheres – paperweights and decorative objects that serve as graphic accents for living spaces. The spheres create mesmerizing light reflections that elevate the interior setting. The collection also introduces Iittala charms featuring the brand’s distinctive typography, along with sun catchers and a spinning top, offering versatile decorative options for bags, accessories, and keys.

The collection is available globally in all Iittala stores, online, and at selected retailers from 21
March 2025 onwards.
