On June 13th, the Embassy of Finland in Copenhagen, Denmark, opens its doors to the Embassy of Finland residence to showcase new products from Finnish design brands Lepo and VM Carpet.
Over the last years, Finnish design have gained more and more interest from the global design community. Therefore, the Finnish Embassy wants to show how Finland’s design brands combine a modern design and production thinking with a long heritage of skilled craftmanship – and always with a strong focus on sustainability. Lepo and VM Carpet are two brands that fully embraces these characteristics.
Lepo is a design brand and family business with a long and successful history and has been designing and manufacturing flexible design furniture for 70 years. Lepo has become known for its comfortable seating furniture, which is often tailored to specific projects and can be combined seamlessly.
Over the years, Lepo has collaborated with many internationally known Finnish designers and built a timeless collection. The oldest furniture in the Lepo collection was designed by professor Yrjö Kukkapuro, whose first Moderno collection is still in production.
During the evening in Copenhagen, Lepo will present both new collections and older design treasures from different decades.
Among the news, we find the Boa collection, which was developed in cooperation with Interior Design agency Fyra Oy and Sistem Oy.
Lepo will also showcase some of their iconic classics, such as Moderno designed by Professor Yrjö Kukkapuro in the late 1950s, Polar designed by Interior Architect Esko Pajamies in 1965, and Deco designed by Interior Architect Matti Halme in the early 1980s. In addition, Lepo premieres the Pele lounge chair, which was designed by Pajamies in the 1970 ́s.
High-sustainable craftmanship
VM Carpet is another Finnish family business with a long history. VM Carpet create rugs that tell genuine craft stories where modern creativity meets traditional Nordic craftsmanship and design. The brand is dedicated to delivering both aesthetic appeal and functional excellence – a combination that have gained the brand international recognition. For example, VM Carpet’s beautiful paper yarn rugs have been selected to grace the interiors of the prestigious Aman New York luxury hotel.
”In every rug we make, you can discern traces of humanity, creativity, authenticity, joy, and faith in the future”, says Harri Viita-aho, CEO of VM Carpet
The choice of using innovative and environmentally friendly material, such as paper cord, with an exceptionally small carbon footprint, reflects VM Carpet’s dedication to sustainable design. The carpets not only bring natural beauty but also contribute to reducing environmental impact, making them an ideal choice for projects that prioritize eco-friendly and luxurious solutions. The rugs can be customized for all needs and sizes, whether it’s a home or a public space.

About Lepo
Lepo emerged as a response to the need to refurbish homes in the post-war reconstruction period, as people got wealthier. Founded in 1953, the company was first called Lahden Lepokalusto Ltd, and its production began with spring mattresses, sofa beds, and easy chairs. During the company’s eventful history the name has changed several times, but whether it is Lahden Lepokalusto, Lepokalusto, Lepofinn, or Lepo Product, the company has always been called Lepo, meaning rest and relaxation. Since 1958, Lepo has collaborated with well-known Interior Architects. Since the early 1960s, Lepo has increasingly focused on designing furniture for public interiors.
